How to Create a Web Page Table

Tables are used to provide alignment and specific locations for text and images in a web page. Borders, padding, and different colors or images can be assigned for each cell. Tables are made up of rows and columns, and can be as large or as small as needed. Tables can be created by coding in a text editor such as Notepad, or a WYSIWYG editor such as Microsoft FrontPage.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open a text editor and type in the following:

    . This creates a table of one row with two cells. The tags you are using are , Begin Table; , Table Row; End Table Data; End Table Row; and

    , End Table.

  2. Step 2

    Create additional rows by typing before the end table tag.

  3. Step 3

    Type desired information or place an image in between the and the table data tags.

  4. Step 4

    Save the file and close the editor.

  5. Step 5

    Place the file on a web server and then view the file in a browser to confirm that it displays properly and that all table elements are located correctly.

Tips & Warnings
  • All tables, rows, and cells must have a closing tag to be displayed in the browser properly. If this is not done, the table will not display properly.
  • Tables can have many attributes . A table can have borders, colors, background images and various alignments. Cells can have colors, be aligned to display in various ways, or have padding and borders as well as header cells.
