Winter can put a damper on your spring gardening spirit, knowing that your garden is underneath all that snow. Follow these steps to chase away the winter gardening blues.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plant mums during the fall. It's fun to make fall arrangements in front of your doorway, such as dried flower and grass arrangements, pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks.

  2. Step 2

Add a heated birdbath to your backyard. Yes, a spa for birds--they'll love it and you'll enjoy watching them.

  3. Step 3

Enjoy your inside plants. You might even want to treat yourself to a terrarium. Don’t forget to force some paperwhites. There are lots of indoor projects that can occupy that gardener’s brain of yours.

  4. Step 4

Make a trip to the library and browse through the books on gardening. Check out books on garden fountains, garden ponds, garden walls, anything that has to do with the garden. Use winter as a time to plan and decide what you want to plant in the spring.
