Have you ever eaten somewhere, and couldn't help but remember how good the gravy was? Well, you can make gravy that rivals any other. Here are the basic steps, but you can tweak your recipe to adapt to any flavor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medium saucepan
  • Flour
  • Seasoning salt (or sea salt)
  • Wire whip or spatula
  • Shortening or meat drippings
  • Broth (optional)
  • Hot water (optional)
  1. Step 1

In a medium saucepan, heat about two tablespoons of shortening. Add about a half cup of flour and allow it to brown to desired color.

  2. Step 2

Add seasoning salt (can also add garlic powder, black pepper, etc)

  3. Step 3

Once mixture is slightly boiling, add either hot water or broth (your preference)

  4. Step 4

Stir constantly with whip or spatula until gravy begins to thicken. Turn down heat and continue to stir. Taste along the way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go slowly at first and keep moderate heat.
  • Taste often and stir constantly.
  • Don't cook with high heat or the gravy can scorch.
  • Don't add too much seasoning at first.
  • Don't allow to become overly pasty.
