Regulate Hormones With Vitamins and Minerals

Although we might think of hormones as something associated with menopause or menstruation, hormones play an important role in both men and women's bodies. The organs of your endocrine system regulate hormones, including the pancreas, thyroid, adrenal glands, hypothalamus, pituitary gland and thymus. If you're experiencing a hormonal imbalance, try vitamins and minerals to correct your endocrine function.

    • Chromium
    • Biotin
    • Choline

Support your thyroid function with selenium and zinc. Low thyroid can cause fatigue, weight gain, dry skin and headaches. Selenium and zinc help the body utilize the thyroid hormone.

      • 2

Use iodized salt. Iodine provides an essential component of thyroid hormone. If you exclude salt from your diet, eat seaweed or saltwater fish. You can also take 100 mcg of iodine daily as a supplement.

      • 3

Take vitamin B supplements to increase your adrenal gland output. If you have adrenal gland insufficiency, you can feel irritable, light-headed and hypoglycemic. Your body needs vitamin B to produce adrenal hormones, so take 500 mg of vitamin B5 a day and 100 mg of vitamin B6.

Ask your doctor to check your chromium levels. Chromium helps the hormone insulin to deliver glucose to cells throughout the body. If you have low chromium levels and insulin resistance, fat cells retain the sugar, which increases the risk for diabetes and heart disease.

      • 5

Increase your intake of biotin-rich foods. This B vitamin decreases the risk of insulin resistance. Biotin-rich foods include animal sources like poultry, dairy products and fish.

      • 6

Enhance your body's ability to process estrogen with vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and choline. These vitamins and minerals support liver's ability to excrete excessive estrogen.
