Getting involved at your child's school can be a rewarding experience for you, your child and the school. There are many things as a parent that you can do to support and help your school be a great place for your child. The following ideas will help you learn how to participate in your child's school activities.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Help out in your child's classroom. There are many opportunities for you to help with your child's class. Tell the teacher that you would like to help, share your talents and availability. You may be asked to help in some aspect that you really enjoy and can enhance an existing lesson.

  2. Step 2

Support fundraising events. Giving money is not the only way to support your child's school. You may provide greater support by donating your time with planned fund-raisers and activities. Contact the school secretary or PTA president to find out what is scheduled for the year at your child's school.

  3. Step 3

Attend parent meetings and school board meetings. These venues are tailored specifically to the parent and gives you a voice in how your child's school is managed.

  4. Step 4

Share your skills. If you are musically gifted, volunteer to share your talents with the class or school. If you have a specialized hobby, like carpentry or glassblowing, offer your talent to the school as a special assembly or in-class demonstration.

  5. Step 5

Volunteer to help with extra curricular activities. This could be anything from working in a food booth to chaperoning a trip to baking cookies for a bake sale.
