Disposing of a house trailer can be quick and easy or long and arduous. It all depends on the age of the trailer and what shape it's in. Here are some tips to get rid of a house trailer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Certificate of title
  • Proof of payment of taxes
Step1
Research the trailer and determine its worth. A local mobile home dealership may be able to give you an idea. Another possibility is to check with local government officials, such as county treasurers, to see the appraisal value of the trailer that they use for tax purposes.
Step2
Check with local government officials, such as the zoning board or the area planning commission, regarding any regulations for house trailers. Local government may have ordinances that prohibit moving an older trailer within its geographic boundaries.
Step3
Consult with the owner of the mobile home park, if you rent a lot in one. The owner may be willing to agree to let it stay if you find a buyer for it.
Step4
Ask friends, neighbors and co-workers if they know of anyone who needs a trailer or advertise in the local newspaper.
Step5
Phone mobile home dealers for help. They sometimes receive calls asking for used house trailers, and they may be willing to connect interested parties.
Step6
Complete any necessary paperwork for transfer of the trailer's ownership and title at the appropriate government offices.
Step7
Check with junkyards if you don't find a buyer for the trailer. Another alternative is to find someone who is willing to dismantle it for the scrap metal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure that the buyer has someone with the proper equipment and experience to move the trailer.
