How to Use Oranges Around the House
Oranges are one of the most popular fruits in the world. They are sweet and juicy, a wonderful source of vitamin C and generally available winter through summer. Oranges not only make a wonderful snack. Their scent and the essential oils found in their peels make them handy all around the house.

1
Fill the house with the scent of citrus: make a stovetop potpourri. Simmer the peels of several oranges (and lemons) in two cups of water with a dash of cinnamon in an aluminum pan. Add water as needed so the pot doesn't boil dry.
-
2
Deter cats from using the lawn or garden as a litter box. Spread around a mixture of orange peels and coffee grounds near the felines' favorite places.

-
3
Create a quick mosquito repellent. Rub fresh orange peels over exposed skin to ward off mosquitoes and gnats that are repulsed by the essential oils found in the peels.
-
4
Give ants the boot. Puree a handful of orange peels in a blender with a cup of warm water. Pour the solution carefully into the anthills to send the resident packing.
-
5
Freshen up closets with a classic orange pomander. Push cloves into the skin of a fresh, whole orange and hang it with a piece of string or ribbon to scent a closet for years.

6
Make the best kindling with the scent of orange. Air-dry orange peels, which contain flammable oils that burn longer, and use them to kindle fires instead of newspaper.
