Treating dad like a king on Father's Day is the perfect way to show him how much you love him. When trying to find dad the perfect Father's Day gift, make a list of all his favorite hobbies, sports or past times. Spend some time preparing for the day by putting together a few quick craft projects.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Make dad a "King for the Day" throne. The throne can by made on dad's favorite recliner, or if you're planning a backyard barbecue, a special lawn chair works great. Decorate the chair with streamers and balloons. Make sure you include a special sign that says "My Dad's the King." Make him a crown for the day out of cardboard, and cover it in shiny aluminum foil.
Step2
Start dad's day out right with breakfast. If mom makes breakfast every morning, it might be nice to take dad out for breakfast. Give dad a break from mom's cooking and the opportunity to spend quality time with mom.
Step3
Put together a special barbecue sauce for dad. Mix your favorite sauce, and put it in an empty, clean beer bottle. Use a cork to seal the top. Make a label using the computer, and print it on sticker or adhesive paper. The label should say "My Dad's the King of the BBQ." The sauce is a nice personal touch to compliment a Father's Day barbecue. You could even make dad a "King of the BBQ" apron using fabric paints on a white apron.
Step4
Give him part of the day to himself. Purchase a day trip to dad's favorite outing, whether it's golfing, fishing, hunting or playing basketball. Buy gift cards to allow dad to use this gift anytime.
Step5
Give dad a gift a king can treasure. Father's Day gifts mean more if they come from the heart. If you have time, make dad a gift, but if you aren't crafty think about something dad really enjoys and try to give him a gift he'll be able to use.
Step6
Create some king's cash to give to dad on Father's Day. Cash could be good only for the day, or longer. Make fake dollars using construction paper. Write "King Dad's Dollars" on each, and come up with different chores dad can trade his dollars in for like taking out the garbage, making his bed, feeding the dog or washing his car.

Tips & Warnings

  • Handmade gifts are a perfect way for young and old children to show dad how much they care.
  • Ask dad if he would rather have some alone time during the day, or if he wants to be with the family all day. It's up to dad since Father's Day is his day.
  • Dad shouldn't have to pay for breakfast on Father's Day. Even if the bill is given to him, make sure you or mom is prepared to pay for it.
  • When planning a Father's Day barbecue, don't assume dad wants to grill the food. Ask him ahead of time. He may want the day off from grilling.
