Instructions

    • 1

Pick any size clay or terra-cotta flower pot. Gather supplies to decorate the flower pot such as paint, stickers, glitter or ribbon.

    • 2

Draw a picture the pot. Use a stencil, or draw a picture on your own using pencil. Choose to add a flower, butterflies, bugs or just polka dots to the flower pot. If you're working with a small toddler, a drawing isn't necessary. Let the child paint abstract art.

    • 3

Use acrylic paint to paint the design on the pot. Wait for the paint to completely dry before handling the pot for additional decorations.

    • 4

Flip the pot over to paint a special message for mom on the bottom, or just paint your message on the side of the pot next to your painted design.

    • 5

Fill the pot with dirt. Select your mom's favorite flower. Give the personalized flower pot to mom for Mother's Day.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make your flower pot sparkle, try adding some craft gems or glitter to it using glue.

  • Create a mini flower garden for mom by painting several very small pots and lining them up in a long, narrow container like a flower box, or fill the mini pots with different herbs and give mom her own window herb garden.

  • If mom doesn't have a green thumb, flower pots can be filled with other things. Add a silk plant. Put marbles in the bottom and fill it with pens for a desk accessory. Fill to the top with candy, but make sure you cover the hole in the bottom with tape first.
