How to Knit an Elongated Chevron Pattern
An elongated chevron pattern looks like a series of tall zigzags across fabric. It may look difficult to knit in an elongated chevron pattern, but it's actually easy. Even though the pattern is 16 rows tall, there are only 5 different patterns in the finished product. Here's how to knit in an elongated chevron pattern.

Cast on the right amount of stitches. Each zigzag is 18 stitches long. So you only need to multiply the number of zigzags you want by 18, and then add 1. For example, if you want 10 zigzags, multiply 10 by 18 (180) and add 1 (181).

Learn the pattern for rows 1, 3, 10 and 12. For each of these rows, you purl 1 stitch. Then you repeat this pattern until you get to the end of the row: knit 2; purl 2; knit 2; purl 2; knit 1; purl 2; knit 2; purl 1.

Work rows 2, 4, 9 and 11 in the same way. Start by knitting one stitch. Then repeat this pattern to the end of the row: purl 2; knit 2; purl 2; knit 2; purl 1; knit 2; purl 2; knit 2; purl 2; knit 1.

Knit rows 5, 7, 14 and 16 in the same way. Start with a short rib: purl 2; knit 2; purl 2; knit 2. Then repeat this pattern: purl 3; knit 2; purl 2; knit 2. Repeat this pattern until you get to the last two stitches. Purl the last 2 stitches.

Use the same pattern for rows 6, 8, 13 and 15. With a short rib: knit 2; purl 2; knit 2; purl 2. Then work this pattern: knit 3; purl 2; knit 2; purl 2. When you get to the last two stitches in the row, knit each.

Repeat the Rows in order until you get a knitted piece of elongated chevron that is the right length. Then, bind off your yarn.
