Eating slowly can also help when you are trying to lose weight because it can make you fuller faster. When people eat to fast they consume too much and therefore expand their stomachs. Eating slowly can also look more appealing to the eye than gorging down your food at a table. So learn some tips to eat slower and enjoy your food.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by serving yourself only small portions to begin with. If it is a large meal, most likely there will be more leftovers for you to take seconds. Remember, it isn't a race for food!

  2. Step 2

Use the fork down method. Every time you take a bite, put your fork down immediately. The more we hold our fork in our hands, the more we are tempted to keep shoveling it in.

  3. Step 3

Chew your food as much as you can. Chew thoroughly and pay attention to texture, taste and substance. The more you chew your food, the more you will feel full and be able to swallow properly.

  4. Step 4

Drink water in between bites and a lot of it. Water can help us feel full and works as a detoxifying agent. It will keep you from racing through your food.

  5. Step 5

Stop after each bite and make conversation. Talking through a meal, but not while chewing, can make you halt and slow down your eating habits.

Tips & Warnings
  • People who eat slower and chew their food tend to be healthier and have healthier digestive tracts than people who eat at a rapid speed.
  • It is very important to eat healthy and slowly so you prevent yourself from choking.

on 7/18/2009 There is a basic problem with eating slowly: The food gets cold, fortunately there is a new generation -and different brands- of "heat retentive plates" that keep the food hot for a long time including a ceramic plate that remains still hot after half hour and requires just one minute preheating in a microwave oven.
