Sewing kits are utilized for quick and easy repairs of clothing and accessories. If you know how to sew with a needle and thread, then you'll be able to make use of a sewing kit for occasional or frequent stitching of ripped clothes or for replacing buttons.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your sewing kit to make sure that you have all of the basics. A standard sewing kit should have thread, needles, scissors and measuring tape.

  2. Step 2

Add any accessories that you can use with the sewing kit. If the kit does not come with pins, thimble or needle threader, you may want to buy these items.

  3. Step 3

Pick out the size needle that you need for the clothing items. Finer needles are used for more delicate stitches.

  4. Step 4

Choose the color and type of thread that you need for sewing. An all purpose thread will work on most fabrics. You may need a more delicate thread for finer fabrics.

  5. Step 5

Use the needle threader to pull the thread through the eye of the needle.

  6. Step 6

Start sewing the clothing item. Put the thimble on your middle finger and allow it to assist you in pushing the needle through the fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before you begin using your sewing kit, you should familiarize yourself with the different type of stitches that you can use while sewing.
  • While sewing with a sewing kit, you want to keep the stitches close together. There should be a dozen or more stitches per inch.
