How to Buy Cub Scout Uniforms

Whether you have a new Cub Scout or an experienced Scout that needs a new uniform, there are several options when it comes to finding the right shirt, pants, neckerchief and slide. Find the new or used uniforms you need, and within the budget with the suggestions below.

Instructions

    • 1

Start a Cub Scout uniform exchange program in your local pack. Scouts that outgrow their uniforms can bring them in to sell, and Scouts looking for a uniform can purchase them for a set price.

    • 2

Talk to your pack leader. Some packs order Cub Scout uniforms through the local council as a group and can qualify for a small discount.

    • 3

Ask your Scout's den leader if there are any Scout Shops in your area. There are hundreds of nationally authorized Scout stores and dealers.

    • 4

Search eBay for a used or new uniform. Make sure you double check item descriptions to find the proper size and condition of used uniforms before bidding.

    • 5

Check your local second-hand stores, thrift shops, garage sales and Goodwill stores. Many Scout uniforms can be found in great shape this way too.

    • 6

Save up money before your child needs a new uniform. Have your Cub Scout start saving his allowance or extra change in a special "uniform fund" to help pay for his own uniform. This teaches your Cub Scout personal responsibility and cost of achievement.

Tips & Warnings

  • When setting up an exchange, make sure you set one price for all clothing so the program can be run fairly without disagreements.

  • Check with your leader on funding options. Some packs raise money to help Scouts pay for part or all of their uniforms.

  • Make sure you know the uniform you're son needs for Cub Scouts. The younger scouts wear blue, while older scouts wear tan. You may want to consider how long your Scout needs the uniform before deciding on a size.
