Bulletproof vests are used to protect law enforcement workers in the line of duty. Most departments require that their officers wear a bullet proof vest at all times while working. If your department does not provide a vest, you'll have to buy one on your own. The rule of thumb is to buy a new bulletproof vest every five years.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a law enforcement-supply retailer. Typically, several stores are located in or nearby metropolitan areas. You will need to show your ID and badge to enter these locations.

  2. Step 2

Get your measurements done. The store clerk should measure your dimensions to make sure that the bulletproof vest fits properly.

  3. Step 3

Try on the different brands and models available at the store. The samples can help you decide if the bulletproof vest is comfortable enough to wear for hours at a time.

  4. Step 4

Choose the right level of protection. Level 3A is usually the highest level available for law enforcement.

  5. Step 5

Look for a company that gives you a second cover. Most companies will do this so that you can wash it easily.

  6. Step 6

Wait for the bulletproof vest to come in. Since the vest is designed with your exact measurements in mind, you may need to wait several weeks for a call from the supplier.

Tips & Warnings
  • You must work in law enforcement in order to buy a bulletproof vest. It is against the law otherwise.
  • You can't purchase a bulletproof vest online without certifying that you work in law enforcement.
