1
Start by cleaning the wooden hull. Wash down the entire boat with mild soapy water before bringing it into a clean dry workspace. This simple step kills bacteria, spores and germs and prevents them from becoming airborne during the sanding process.
-
2
Remove the bottom. Inspect and replace any rotted or weak wood in the keel and frames if possible. This strengthens the boat considerably. Replace the bottom using marine-grade pine for the inner and mahogany planks for the outer. Carefully seal the bottom with high-grade sealant. This strengthening process is critical when restoring power boats.

3
Re-plank the sides, the deck and floor. For an exceptional-quality restoration, pay careful attention to matching the grain on the port and starboard. This gives the power boat a luxurious line.
-
4
Tear down the engine. Clean and replace all worn parts. Replace all the wiring and hoses. Use classic cloth-wrapped wiring to add to the authenticity of the restoration.
-
5
Upholster the seats with original materials. Remember to treat the upholstery with a protective coating of UV-blocking polymer.
-
6
Re-chrome all the gauges and railings. This makes the boat shine as it cuts through the water.

Tips & Warnings
Consider using polymers for restoration. Using mahogany to replace pieces of the boat may be impossible due to advanced rot and decay.
