Secondary infertility is a term used to describe a woman who was able to naturally conceive in the past, but is having difficulty conceiving another child. This problem is very common and makes up more than half of infertility cases. In some cases, there are ways to prevent secondary infertility from occurring.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Keep an eye on your weight. Weight gain is a common occurrence after a pregnancy. However, excessive weight gain can cause you to have problems when you attempt to conceive again.
Step2
Get treatment for infections. A vaginal infection can cause infertility in a woman. Getting infections treated right away by a doctor will help you avoid secondary infertility.
Step3
Try for a child within a few years of your initial pregnancy. One of the most common sources of fertility issues is age. If you wait too long to have another baby, you may run into a problem naturally conceiving.
Step4
Take care of yourself. Women with children sometimes neglect their health and have high stress levels. Eat well, exercise and make time to relax in order to help prevent secondary infertility.
Step5
Let your partner know that he needs to stay healthy. A partner's low sperm production can also cause secondary infertility. A low sperm count can be caused by poor nutrition and substance abuse.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a problem conceiving, make an appointment with your doctor. She may wish to send you to a fertility specialist.
  • There are additional reasons that may be the source of secondary infertility. Medical conditions, such as fibroids and endometriosis, can cause infertility to occur.
