If you are one of those people who have many old t-shirts lying around and are thinking about tossing them in the trash, you may want to think twice. Recycling an old t-shirt can help save landfill space, which in turn helps our earth. If you are stuck on what to do with that old t-shirt, here are some fun ideas.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Quilting material
  • Pillow stuffing
  1. Step 1

Turn your old t-shirts into cleaning cloths. Rip them into large pieces and use them for dusting, window cleaning, waxing your car or polishing shoes; the possibilities are almost endless.

  2. Step 2

Give old t-shirts that are in good condition to the Salvation Army, homeless shelters or any other charitable organization that takes clothing donations. Not only will you be recycling your old shirts, but you will also be helping those in need.

  3. Step 3

Cover furniture with an old t-shirt. A shirt can be cut at the neck and slipped over the cushions or backs of outdoor furniture as added protection against the elements.

  4. Step 4

Preserve all of your nice clothes hanging in your closet with old t-shirts. Simply slip a clean, old t-shirt over your fine, hanging garments to protect them from dust and dirt.

  5. Step 5

Make a t-shirt pillow. Cut a shirt in the back, add some pillow stuffing and decorative buttons and then sew it up at the open seams.

  6. Step 6

Create a t-shirt quilt. Cut squares from your favorite old t-shirts, then cut quilting fabric into squares and sew the squares together into horizontal or vertical rows. Add backing to the rows and quilt.
