A wire gate is a great and simple way to keep wild animals, the neighbor's pet and children out of your garden or yard. It can also keep small animals in place and out of harm's way. Take your time to examine and reinforce a wire gate.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Test your gate for weaknesses. Look for larger holes, ripped wires or rusted spots. Decide on how much of your gate or fence you want to reinforce. Examine the bottom of the fence to see if it needs to be deeper.
Step2
Buy smaller wire fencing, rebar wire string or fence posts depending upon what reinforcements you need to make to the gate.
Step3
Dig a deep trench along the inside of the fence. Place the new wire fence alongside the old fence. Secure it in place using rebar wire string and a post if necessary. Fill the trench with large rocks and dirt. Pack the dirt down.
Step4
Add wire fence to the top of the fence to extend the height of your wire gate. Tie in place using rebar wire string and at least three fence posts. These are needed to give stability to the added height of the gate.
Step5
Pull the wire fence taut against the portion that is rusted or weak. Attach it to the fence with rebar wire string. Use pliers to tighten the wire string and bend the points under. Make sure the new part extends far beyond the weak section.
