Do you have a pile of egg cartons sitting in your garage, taking up space and waiting to be recycled? Those cartons can still have a purpose even after the eggs are gone. With a little resourcefulness, they can be put to good use in the home, garden and garage.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Use an old egg carton to separate the change at your next yard or garage sale.
Step2
Store extra golf balls in an egg carton. The balls can be sorted by age, condition or brand, and the cartons are stackable, making it easy to store several dozen golf balls in a small space.
Step3
Put beads, buttons or other small craft items in an egg carton to keep supplies handy and organized.
Step4
Turn old cardboard egg cartons into fire starters. Fill the carton with sawdust or lint from the clothes dryer and drizzle melted wax over the top. Tear the sections apart and use them one at a time for fire starters in a fireplace. Egg carton fire starters are handy and portable for camping trips as well.
Step5
Start your garden planting early in the season by using cardboard egg cartons as seed starters. Poke drainage holes in the bottom and fill the carton with potting soil and vermiculite. Plant seeds in each section and place the carton on a sunny windowsill. When the seedlings are big enough to transplant, there is no need to remove the seedling from the carton. Just cut each section apart and plant the entire section.
Step6
Create a handy desk organizer with a used egg carton. Cut off the top and use the carton to store small items, such as tacks, paper clips and rubber bands. If you have a junk drawer, egg cartons will help to keep it organized.
