How to Use the PowerPoint Help System

Whether you are trying to perform a simple task or a more complicated one within Microsoft PowerPoint, you may find that you need some help. All of the programs within Microsoft Office come with a help system that assists you in finding the help you need to get your task completed. Follow the steps below to find out how to use the PowerPoint help system.

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2003
  1. Step 1

    Open Microsoft PowerPoint and locate the "Type a question for help" box in the upper-right-hand corner of PowerPoint.

  2. Step 2

    Type in a question, phrase or word in the "Type a question for help" box that you would like to get help on in regard to your PowerPoint presentation. Press the "Enter" key on the keyboard when you are finished typing. Once you press the "Enter" key, the "Search Results" task pane will open on the right side of your screen. The results from the help system will be displayed here.

  3. Step 3

    Use your mouse to scroll down throughout the results until you find a topic that looks like it will provide the help that you need.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the topic you think will be the most helpful. When you do this, the "Microsoft Office PowerPoint Help" window will open on the right side of your screen.

  5. Step 5

    Read and follow the steps that are outlined to get the PowerPoint help that you need. If you don't find the topic helpful, just click on a different search result in the "Search Results" task pane.

  6. Step 6

    Close the PowerPoint help system by clicking on the "X" exit button in the "Microsoft Office PowerPoint Help" window and the "Search Results" task pane.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't find a topic that is helpful to you, try rephrasing the search you enter in the "Type a question for help" box and starting the help system process over again.
