How to Make Emu Oil Soap
Emu oil soap is a rich and effective moisturizing soap and is very beneficial to the skin. Emu oil easily penetrates the skin, is hypoallergenic and can help to relieve burns, eczema and dry and cracked skin. Things You'll Need
- 5 3/4 oz. lye, flaked
- 16 oz. water
- 16 oz. oil of avocado
- 8 oz. oil of palm
- 4 oz. olive oil
- 4 oz. soybean oil
- 6 oz. oil of coconut
- 2 oz. shea butter
- 2 oz. cocoa butter
- 2 oz. tea tree oil
- 1 oz. emu oil
- Large container, stainless steel or heavy plastic
- Stainless steel saucepan, large
- Soap molds

Put on plastic gloves and safety goggles, and mix the lye and water in a stainless steel or heavy plastic container.

Cover the container and let the lye and water mixture to cool to approximately 100 to 110 degrees.

Melt all of the oils and butters on low heat in a large stainless steel saucepan.

Pour the cooled lye mixture into the oils and stir often with the saucepan on low heat. Continue to cook until the mixture begins to bubble.

Pour the emu oil soap mixture into molds.

Allow the emu oil soap to dry and harden for about 3 or 4 weeks. Do not cover and allow air to circulate.

Tips & Warnings
If your soap develops a powdery layer while it is drying, don't worry. It is a natural result of the soap-making process and will disappear the first time the soap is used.
Lye is a dangerous caustic substance, and it is very important to handle it carefully and use adequate safety precautions. Always wear protective clothing and make soap in a well-ventilated area.
