Knitting is a wonderful way to show your creativity. Simple projects can be made with just a few stitches. Beginners particularly love the easy garter stitch which is used to knit a garter rib pattern. Read on to learn how to knit a garter rib pattern.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Knitting needles
  1. Step 1

Cast on the desired amount of stitches. The garter rib is knitted in multiples of four, which means that no matter how many stitches you want to use, the total number must be divisible by four. For example, cast on 80 stitches, which is 20 sets of four.

  2. Step 2

Knit row one. Knit (K) two stitches, then purl (P) two stitches. Keep repeating this pattern (K2, P2) across the total number of cast-on stitches.

  3. Step 3

Knit the rest of the piece. When you get to the end of the first row, turn and repeat row one for as long as desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are knitting in the round, continue around, matching stitches as you go. If you wish to use different colors, take the first and last stitch and switch them, return them both to their new positions in the needles, then knit as usual. This will make the colors blend and will not have mismatched color blocks.
