How to Create a Custom Link Bar in FrontPage

Navigation is an important component of a website, and it's up to you to make sure that visitors can get from one place to another. An easy way to add navigation to your Microsoft FrontPage website is by creating a custom link bar. Once this link bar is created you can add links to it and create it to be applied to all pages in a consistent manner. Read on to learn how to create a custom link bar in FrontPage.

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2003
  1. Step 1

    Start Microsoft FrontPage and open an existing website to which you would like to add a custom link bar.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the "Insert" button and click on "Web Component" to open the "Insert Web Component" dialog box.

  3. Step 3

    Select the "Link Bars" option from the "Component Type" section of the "Insert Web Component" dialog box and choose the "Bar With Custom Links" option to the right.

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Next" button on the "Insert Web Component" dialog box to move to the next screen.

  5. Step 5

    Use the scroll arrows to select a bar style for your custom link bar and click the "Next" button to move to the next screen.

  6. Step 6

    Choose an orientation of either horizontal or vertical for your custom link bar and click the "Finish" button on the "Insert Web Component" dialog box to close the dialog box and open the "Link Bar Properties" dialog box.

  7. Step 7

    Name the link bar in the "Create New Link Bar" dialog box. Then, add the links and choose the style of the bar in the "Link Bar Properties" dialog box, before clicking the "OK" button to create your custom link bar.

Tips & Warnings
  • Double click on your inserted custom link bar to edit it or add links to it at any time.
  • You must have an actual website created before you can add a custom link bar to it.
