Whether you are a beginning cigar aficionado or if you have been smoking them for years and are looking to build your own collection, there are many factors to consider when storing cigars. Here are some things you can do to get your storage off to a good start. Read on to learn how to store cigars.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Determine how much money to invest. If you are looking to store cigars that cost you less than $20, you may not want to spend $500 on a humidor. However, if you are spending lots of money for high quality cigars, you will want to spend a proportionate amount of money to keep them from losing their flavor.
Step2
Decide on a plastic bag, box or a humidor. If you are planning on seriously building a cigar selection, you will more than likely find a humidor will fit your needs. However, if you are simply saving one for a special occasion and are planning on smoking it soon after purchase, a plastic bag can keep it fresh for a few days.
Step3
Set the temperature. Store cigars between 64 and 70 degrees F to keep them from aging too quickly or too slowly, so make sure they are stored in an environment that stays relatively temperate.
Step4
Monitor the humidity. Be sure to keep your cigars at a relative humidity level of 68 to 74 percent. Any less than that and they can dry out, and any more than that and they can begin to rot.
Step5
Keep your cigars in an air-tight environment. This keeps the flavor of your cigars from either mixing with other cigars in the same storage area or from losing their flavor from improper storage. Be sure to expose your cigars to fresh air every two weeks.
