Step 1
Draw the design for the needlework onto the fabric. Select a transfer method, that fades, can be washed away or easily hidden by the needlework.

Place the fabric into an embroidery hoop. Hold the tail of the thread on the backside of the fabric and then secure it with the first few stitches.

Step 3
Bring the needle through to the front of the fabric. Hold the thread with the thumb.

Step 4
Take the needle down through the fabric in the same place where it came through. Shape a small oval with the thread and hold it in place with the thumb.

Step 5
Bring the needle back up through the front of the fabric just inside the top of the loop made previously. Pull the needle through with the thread wrapped under the needle. Continue to form a line of chain stitches.

Step 6
Use a traditional finish by weaving the tail of the thread under the last few stitches on the backside of the fabric.
