Instructions

    • 1

Apply the design for the needlework onto the fabric. Place fabric into an embroidery hoop.

    • 2

Hold the tail of the thread on the backside of the fabric and then secure it with the first few stitches. Don't knot the thread as the knot can show through the front of the work.

    • 3

Mark two parallel guidelines on the fabric using a fade-out marker. Pierce the fabric back to front on the left side and secure the thread with the left thumb.

    • 4

Insert the needle on the right side of the designated line. Go through the fabric and bring the needle out to the left of the line of stitching.

    • 5

Wrap the thread under the point of the needle. Pull through to the front of the fabric. Pierce the fabric again on the right side of the inside of the loop, then take the needle through the fabric back to the left line to start the next stitch.

    • 6

Continue for the desired length of the chain or ladder. Embellish with beads of French knots. Finish the stitching by weaving the end of the thread under a few stitches on the backside of the fabric instead of knotting the thread.
