How to Add a New Page to a Dreamweaver Website

When you first start a Dreamweaver website, you will probably begin with one page. This page will become your "Index" page. At some point, you will want to begin to add other pages to your website. There is a wide variety of pages that you can add to your website. Dreamweaver makes it an easy process to do so. Read on to learn how to add a new page to a Dreamweaver website.

Things You'll Need:

  • Macromedia Dreamweaver 8
  1. Step 1

    Start Dreamweaver and open an existing Dreamweaver website. Another option is to click "HTML" on the "New" section of the Dreamweaver introduction splash screen to begin your new website with one page.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the "File" menu and click on "New" to open the "New Document" dialog box and click the "General" tab if necessary.

  3. Step 3

    Select the "Category" of page from the text box on the left of the page. You can choose from a wide variety of categories including "Basic Page" and "CSS Style Sheets."

  4. Step 4

    Use your mouse to choose the specific type of page you want from the text box in the middle of the screen. As you click on each type of page, you will see a preview and description of the page on the right side of the dialog box.

  5. Step 5

    Click the "Preferences" button in the "New Document" dialog box to change the default settings for that particular type of page.

  6. Step 6

    Use your mouse to click the "Create" button to close the "New Document" dialog box and add a new page to your Dreamweaver website.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the keyboard shortcut of CTRL+N to quickly open the "New Document" dialog box.
  • You can also add a new page to your Dreamweaver website by selecting an option from the "Start Page" that opens when all pages are closed, but Dreamweaver remains open.
