Step 1
Purchase a stroller model that is sturdy and has a wide base so that it stays upright and does not tip over while your baby is riding in it. Before placing your baby in it, give the stroller a rigorous shake, and run its wheels into a door or a curb to see how it performs and to ensure your baby stays safe while riding in it.
-
Step 2
Ensure that the stroller is locked or snapped into the proper extended position before you buckle your baby inside it. Keep your baby a safe distance away from the stroller's hinges as you open it, as little fingers can often get caught in them.
-
Step 3
Buckle your child into the stroller using the safety straps every time she's in it. Stroller seat belts can protect your child from serious injury should you have an accident.
-
Step 4
Apply the stroller's brakes each time you stop for more than a few seconds. This will prevent the stroller from rolling away from you while your baby is trapped inside.
-
Step 5
Position your baby's stroller by your side when you're searching for your keys and opening car doors, and never leave your baby in her stroller behind your car. Strap your baby into the car seat before loading your car with any packages you may have from shopping.
-
Step 6
Check the weight limit in the stroller's owner's manual and make sure your child does not exceed it.
-
Step 7
Teach your older baby how to sit properly in the stroller, and to never lean over the stroller's sides. Even a very safe and sturdy stroller can tip over by a baby who isn't positioned in it correctly.
