Exercise, deep breathing and talking to someone about your problems are easily seen as helping you relieve stress. Reading a book can also help you reduce stress and have fun while you relax. Use some time alone to decompress from your day, and bring along a nice novel to help bring your stress levels down. For further insight, read on to learn how to read a book to reduce stress.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Let the book take you away. If a vacation is really what you need, but your pocketbook won't allow a fancy getaway, then read a book set in an exotic location. It may not be the same, but the imagination is a powerful tool, and if you really allow yourself to dive into the story, then it can help the stress melt away.

  2. Step 2

Use a different part of your brain. Most jobs are very business like in speech, writing and communication in general. Reduce stress and read a book that allows you to use the creative parts of your brain, too. A healthy balance of both halves of the brain will make you a happier, more well-rounded person.

  3. Step 3

Get comfortable. Use your reading time to curl up with a calming cup of tea, snuggle up with your honey or your pooch and forget about the world outside. Learn to leave the office at the office, and the stress outside and reduce stress when you read a book.

  4. Step 4

Gain knowledge about the root of your stress. Read a good book on eating disorders, alcoholism, relationship troubles or any other problem that may be plaguing you. Learning how to diagnose and relieve yourself of the things that stress you will be life-changing.

  5. Step 5

Choose fun material that interests you. Not every book is appealing to every person, and not all subject matters will reduce stress. Instead of picking up a book on current political strife overseas, choose a good spy novel or horror story to relax.
