How to Create a Dreamweaver Table in Layout Mode

Dreamweaver can automatically create tables for you with the defaults already applied. You can also create tables yourself by drawing tables in Dreamweaver's "Layout Mode." While drawing a table in layout mode, you can specifically choose how big you want the table to be and what existing content you want the table to contain. Follow the steps below to create a table in layout mode for your Dreamweaver website.

      Open Dreamweaver and start a new document by clicking the "HTML" link on the Dreamweaver introduction splash screen, or open up an existing web page that you need to add a table to make the page complete.

      Go into "Design" view by choosing the "View" menu and clicking on "Design."

      Enter "Layout Mode" by choosing the "View" menu, point to "Table Mode" and clicking on "Layout Mode."

      Choose the "Insert" menu, point to "Layout Objects" and click on "Layout Table" before beginning to draw your table.

      Point your mouse on the screen where you would like to start drawing your table. You can draw your table in a blank area, over existing tables or cells or inside another table.

      Click and drag to create a layout table on your FrontPage web page.

      Release your mouse when you are finished creating your table and use the "Properties" pane to make any changes to the table that you see necessary for your website.

Tips & Warnings

  • The keyboard shortcut for switching to "Layout Mode" is CTRL+F6.

  • Hold down the CTRL key and click and drag with your mouse on top of your table to continue creating multiple tables within FrontPage layout mode.
