When you insert a graphic into Microsoft Word, it will by default position on the left side of the page in line with the text. If you would like the image to show up differently, whether it is relative to the page or to the content, you can do this in a few easy steps that are outlined below.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2003

Step1
Start Microsoft Word and open an existing file that contains a graphic that you would like to move within the document.
Step2
Select the graphic by clicking on top of the graphic that you want to move the positioning.
Step3
Choose the "Format" menu and click on "Picture" to bring up the "Format Picture" dialog box.
Step4
Click on the "Layout" tab and locate the "Wrapping Style" section of the "Format Picture" dialog box.
Step5
Decide how you wish to position your graphic in terms of the surrounding content by clicking to select either "In Line With Text," "Square," "Tight," "Behind Text" or "In Front of Text."
Step6
Use your mouse to select an alignment of either "Left," "Center," "Right" or "Other" under the "Horizontal Alignment" section of the "Format Picture" dialog box. This will set the position of the graphic in regard to the page width and height.
Step7
Click the "OK" button to close the "Format Picture" dialog box and apply the positioning settings to the graphic you have selected.
