    Instructions

      • 1

Ask about your company's privacy policy. Certain companies explain this in their employment contracts. For instance, the company may state clearly that it can and will access your email account on a regular basis or track your Internet usage.

      • 2

Avoid using email at work for personal matters or complaining about the company. Use email as if someone is standing behind you all the time.

      • 3

Try setting up a tiny rear view mirror in your cubicle if people tend to walk in unannounced. This way you'll know someone is standing there if they haven't the manners to knock. Better yet, sit facing the door or opening if at all possible.

Use the Internet for work related matters only. Do all financial transactions on a private computer to avoid entering bank account numbers, credit card numbers or any other personal information that can be accessed.

      • 5

Take a personal phone call away from the cubicle. People can't help over hearing you. An empty conference room or stepping outside with your cell phone is a better place to do anything.

      • 6

Lock your drawers and cabinets. Leaving your office or cubicle for a meeting or lunch invites someone else to stroll in. Lock away anything you don't want anyone to see or access.

      • 7

Offer minimal personal information. Answer questions in a friendly manner but don't offer up anything more unless you want it to be common knowledge.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Your paycheck is your own business. Don't share this information with others, no matter how close they may feel as friends.

    • Discourage those who drop by to chat about more than work by smiling politely and turning back to your work, or pick up the phone to make a call and politely dismiss the visitor.
