Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen to your doctor's recommendations and return for post-operative visits as instructed.

  2. Step 2

Take your pain medicine and antibiotics. The pain medicine will help make your recovery time less painful and the antibiotics will help prevent against infection.

  3. Step 3

Abstain from sex until your doctor okays it. This will be 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure.

  4. Step 4

Plan to take it easy after the procedure. A vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure and you will likely be uncomfortable after it. Do not plan on taking care of children, running errands or doing chores for a few days after your vaginoplasty. In addition, expect not to go to work for a few days after the procedure. You may want to have the procedure on a Friday so you can recover over the weekend. You will also want to avoid strenuous activity such as exercise for about 3 to 4 weeks, or until your doctor approves it.

  5. Step 5

Watch for infection. Signs of infection include swelling, redness, a foul odor, unusual pain, oozing and/or discharge from the surgical area. You also may experience a fever and a general feeling of sickness. Contact your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.

  6. Step 6

Get someone else to drive you home after the procedure. In addition, most doctors require you have someone who can stay with you for about 24 hours your vaginoplasty.
