How to Use Blackboard With AOL

The use of Blackboard online software and AOL can cause conflicts when to used together. Blackboard, is an educational software tool that helps teachers and students with their organization and test making online. AOL and other browsers often have features that block the use of certain programs but with a little time and tweaking, programs can usually be installed and fully functional. Read on to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Download the most current version of Mozilla, Netscape, or Internet Explorer to your computer. These are all examples of stand alone Internet browsers that will work with Blackboard and do not cause conflicts.

  2. Step 2

    Install your new browser onto your computer following their onscreen directions. There are also directions for installation and computer hardware requirements listed on the websites. Restart your computer after the installation is complete if it doesn't do so automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Go to your AOL online account and sign in as you normally would. Stay on the AOL Main Welcome page and minimize the window or move it to the side.

  4. Step 4

    Click the new icon twice to start your new browser program. You will be able to browse the Internet using this browser using the AOL connection you have already established.

  5. Step 5

    Start the Blackboard program while your newest browser is running in the background. You will always have to login to you AOL account first and then login to Blackboard.

  6. Step 6

    Check your browser in the Blackboard program to be sure that you are configuring your browser to be sure the program is running as efficiently and minimize the chance of other conflicts with your stand alone browser. Do this by hitting "Check Browser" on the where you login to Blackboard.
