1
Recognize first and foremost that if you do not take responsibility for yourself during the rehab process, then no one will. Speak with your family about helping you survive through the process.
-
2
Commit totally to the rehab program by doing all necessary reading, going to therapy, and taking medication as instructed by the rehab staff. Try and develop a schedule for your time so you can be accountable for your day.
-
-
3
Surrender to the notion that you are addicted, disabled, or out of control. Find someone in rehab that you can relate to whether it be someone else in the program or a mentor.
-
4
Learn to feel your feelings and quiet the mind. Know that through a quiet mind and meditation you can finally survive and kick the need to be dependent on a disease, drug or person to get you through your life.
-
5
Stay in contact with your sponsor, physical therapist, psychologist or counselor. Write in a journal every day where you record your thoughts on the world around you and your state in that world.

When you find yourself resisting treatment, realize that you only have two choices. Either accept your condition or do something about it; evaluate which option is more appealing in the long run.
Don't become a rehab statistic (95% of rehab patients don't continue treatment, and thus relapse).
