How to Do Side Lying Leg Series on the Pilates Reformer

The Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine that uses spring resistance to help build muscle strength. The machine is usually used in a gym to help teach Pilates, but increasingly more people are buying these machines to use at home. Side lying leg series is just one type of exercise you can do on the Pilates Reformer. Read on to learn more.

      Lie down on the Pilates Reformer on your left side. You can either lie your head down or prop it up on your hand.

      With the footbar in the highest position, place your left foot under the bar. The right leg should be placed on top of the left leg.

      To do the side kick front back, raise your right leg and flex the foot. Swing the leg in front of you, and when you have completed a full kick, do a short pulse kick and swing your leg to your back. Return to the starting position. Do five to 10 reps with each leg.

      To do the side kick up and down, lie on your left side with your left leg under the footbar. Raise your right leg up as far as you can and bring it back down. Start with five reps and work your way up to eight reps with each leg.

      To do side leg lifts, lie on your left side. With your heels together, slightly raise your legs off the platform of the reformer. Hold them up as long as you can and then return them to the platform. Do five to 10 reps each side.
