A popular dance in the '80s and even today, the Running Man is a fast-paced dance that can be preformed to many types of popular music. It's called the Running Man because the dancer looks like just that--a running man. But there's more to it than just running in place. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Stand with your feet flat on the ground and your left foot in front of your right foot as if you are taking a step forward. Your toes on your right foot should be about a foot behind the heel of your left foot when in this position.
Step2
Take a step in place with two hopping motions. Your right foot should pick up slightly off the floor and come forward as your left foot hops back. Then step your right foot forward as your left foot hops back further.
Step3
Repeat this with your right foot hopping back as your left foot scoots up and then forward.
Step4
Add the arm movements. Stretch your arms out in front of you, then bend your elbows and bring your hands in toward your chest. Do this repeatedly to accompany your foot movements.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice the moves until you have them down well before you try to do the Running Man dance to music.
  • Your feet should always be flat on the ground when apart.
  • As you get more advanced at performing the Running Man, ad lib more complex moves with your feet and arms.
  • Don't actually move your body forward with your dance steps. This dance is meant to be performed by staying in one place.
