Step 1
Find a game convention near your area. Search for local game groups or ask your own gaming group, if applicable, if they know of any gaming conventions nearby. Call comic books stores, gaming stores and hobby shops to find out if they might know of local gaming conventions.
-
Step 2
Book flights and hotels in advance. Some conventions attract thousands of gamers and sell out early. That means reservations for hotels and flights to the area of the game convention can fill up fast. Plan ahead and determine all your options. Alternatives to staying at a hotel could include camping, driving to and from the convention from your home, or finding someone to stay with that lives nearby.
-
Step 3
Register for the convention. Some gaming conventions require you to register before the event. Many take registration at the door. But it can cost you more and events aren't usually guaranteed. Follow the guidelines set forth by the gaming convention. Call the contact person if you have any questions about the itinerary. Read the fine print on the gaming convention brochure, so you don't have any surprises.
-
Step 4
Bring plenty of paper and writing utensils. Even if you don't plan to do anything but role playing games, it's good to have extras in case you or the group tries a different game.
-
Step 5
Prepare to stay up late gaming at the convention. Gamers are creatures of the night. Many gamers have all night game sessions. Prepare some coffee, tea or other caffeinated beverage and plan to have fun.
