How to Become a GED Teacher
GED stands for General Education Development. Getting your GED is the equivalent of getting a high school diploma. Often students who don't complete high school, or who want to complete high school in a home school environment are working to get their GED. Realize that requirements for becoming a GED teacher vary by state. Some states have strict requirements in place, while others will accept volunteers. Contact your state's Department of Education or Board of Education for more information.

Get your Bachelors Degree and preferably a Masters Degree. For the most part, you can have a degree in any field; to become GED teacher simply having a degree is enough.

Be prepared to need a public school teacher licenses and/or an adult education credential. Contact your state for the requirements for these licenses and credentials and to see if you even need one.

Have some sort of adult education experience. Most states require this before you can become a GED teacher. In addition, you may find that teaching adults is not for you, before you go through the work to become a GED teacher.

Expect to have to take some training depending on your state's requirements. Training usually includes information about teaching adult learners, how to use technology in your classroom, how to work with adults from different cultures and how to work with adults with learning disabilities.
