Tarping a jet ski is a necessary part of the end of the season. You need to properly maintain and care for your jet ski in order to ride it next year and tarping it is imperative to protecting your investment. Here is how to tarp your jet ski so you can keep it ready to ride the waves next year.

From Quick Guide: Jet Skiing
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wash your jet ski. You need to get all the salt and algae off the fiberglass or you could have staining happen to the finish during the months of storage. Be sure to use a cleaner especially made to clean a jet ski. Make sure your jet ski is thoroughly dry. Take time to dry out the hull inside and out. Pay careful attention to the inside or you will have mold growing.

  2. Step 2

Wax your jet ski and prepare it for storage. (See the related eHow article titled "How to Store a Jet Ski for Winter" for all the details concerning battery, engine and gas tank care for storage.)

  3. Step 3

Buy a quality PWC tarp for your jet ski. Be sure to get one with UV and all weather protection. Consider getting a custom made cover for the best fit and protection.

  4. Step 4

Place the tarp over the jet ski and stretch it into place. Be sure to protect the trailer tires with a tarp as well.

  5. Step 5

Tie down the tarp at the seat area to ensure the wind will not blow your tarp off your jet ski. Some tarp companies include a tie-down web strap with their tarp. If yours is one of them, use it. If not, you can get a tie-down at your local PWC dealer.
