Whether you're writing an advertisement or an essay, you can convince someone of something with the words you use. You want to get your point across and influence the reader. Follow these tips to write persuasively and convince someone to follow your advice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Know your audience. You can't persuade anyone to do anything if you don't know who you will be convincing. Take the time to review the reader before you start writing.
Step2
Sympathize with the readers. Show you understand how they feel about something. You want readers to know that you can relate to them and want to help.
Step3
Convince the reader you are right. Give your opinion and then back up your point of view with proof. Use facts. Explain how the reader will gain something by believing you.
Step4
Be passionate with your argument. Appeal to the readers' emotions. Talk to readers personally so they feel attached to your words.
Step5
Be honest and then prove you are telling the truth. Back up your claim with facts. Use a personal example or an anecdote to prove your point so the reader can visualize your reasoning.
Step6
Explain an opposing point of view. Include all the details and the arguments for the other side. Use facts and show you know what you are talking about. Then disprove the opposition's point of view or show why your way is better.
Step7
Leave the reader feeling satisfied. Include a plan of action. Tell the reader what to do next.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't lie or exaggerate. You will lose your argument the second someone thinks you are misrepresenting the truth.
