  1. Step 1

Ask friends and family if they would like to start a group. Most likely you will find folks who are ready an willing to get some good home canned food rather than buying canned goods in the store.

  2. Step 2

Advertise in your local area. Consider posting a flier on your church bulletin or at your local farmer's market, stating that you want to form a canning group. Be sure to include contact information.

  3. Step 3

Consider joining or starting a Yahoo group. The Canning2 Yahoo group helps you connect with other home canning lovers across the country. You can exchange recipes and ideas as well as gain some friends who share your home canning interests.

  4. Step 4

Have each person specialize in growing a certain fruit or vegetable when you form your canning group. You can get a variety by exchanging the fruits of your labor. Have one person can applesauce, another tomatoes, another kraut and another jam. Can anything that is used by the whole group.

  5. Step 5

Set up meetings at each person's house during the peak of the season. The canning process is a lot of work and sharing it with friends makes the work fun.
