How to Create a Hung Over Emoticon

When you're hung over, the last thing you want to do is explain your physical condition in great detail. Discussing how you worshiped the porcelain bowl all night is likely to send you right back into the bathroom. A quick way to get your point across in an email, instant message or discussion board is by creating a hung over emoticon. Here's how to come up with this funny emoticon.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a look at existing hung over emoticons. The two most popular ones are made from a sad face with several characters on top, "%*@:-(," which conveys a feeling of nausea and exhaustion, and the briefer version, "%-\." Notice that both use the % sign to represent unfocused eyes.

    • 2

Examine the keys on your keyboard. Decide which ones look the most like the eyes, nose and mouth of a hung over person. You can also use characters to represent vomit or messy hair. The key is to be creative when interpreting the symbols.

    • 3

Study other emoticons to get an idea for how different letters and characters have been used to represent facial expressions. See if any of these characters would make sense in a hung over emoticon. For example, the tongue in cheek sign uses a "P" as a tongue sticking out of the mouth. You might use the "P" to instead represent a person gagging on their own vomit.

    • 4

Share your emoticon through emails, instant messages, discussion boards and blogs to see if other people understand that it means hung over. If they don't, you might want to go back to the drawing board.

    • 5

Use your new emoticon in a place with high visibility, like your blog, website--or even in user reviews other people who might get hung over would see. With the right audience, soon your hung over emoticon might be universally accepted.
