Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Belt
  • Foot cuffs
  • Dumbbells
  • Barbell
  • Webbed gloves
  • Kickboard
  1. Step 1

Start with a belt. This flotation device fits around your waist and allows you to exercise in deep water. Jog or use weights as you float to get a good workout.

  2. Step 2

Get a set of foot cuffs. Attach these to your ankles and you'll add resistance to your water aerobics workout.

  3. Step 3

Buy a kickboard to practice the correct kicks. Give your upper body a rest with this device and work your legs, concentrating on the correct movements.

  4. Step 4

Buy dumbbells and barbells. These are shaped like the weights at the gym but are padded where the weight would be. They'll keep you afloat and add a resistance workout for your upper body.

  5. Step 5

Consider buying webbed gloves. Use these during water aerobics or while swimming laps. You just swim normally through the water while the amount of pull on each stroke is increased.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to save a little money on equipment consider joining a water aerobics class. You'll learn all the moves you'll need plus equipment is usually provided. You'll also get the added benefit of meeting new people.
  • Don't forget the accessories. Goggles and nose plugs aren't necessary but could come in handy. If you're prone to ear infections or have tubes in your ears grab a swim cap, an ear band or ear plugs. And just for the fun of it-try an underwater mp3 player to keep your workout exciting.
