Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose the right materials. When you make a vinyl tablecloth, the most important decision to make is what type of colors and patterns you want to use for your design. You can choose to match your curtains, or go a completely different direction with a textured material. Browse your local fabric store to see what ideas you can come up with. Since you'll be covering the top with a piece of clear vinyl, you don't have to worry about cleaning the fabric beneath.

  2. Step 2

Get the dimensions of your table. After you measure your table, add on an extra eight to 10 inches to create a drop off the sides of your table.

  3. Step 3

Cut the fabric. If your table is small enough, you can cut one big piece of fabric from the bolt of fabric and won't have to worry about sewing pieces together. If you have a large table, you will have to piece together a few different pieces of fabric to make it work. Then secure the pieces with either fusible webbing or a needle and thread.

  4. Step 4

Measure and cut a matching piece of vinyl. Once you have the base of the tablecloth cut out and put together, cut off a piece of clear cling vinyl to match it. Add an inch or two on all sides to create a bit of an overhang.

  5. Step 5

Put the pieces together. Lay the vinyl over the top of the fabric; it should cling together. Then place it on your table for a fun and functional tablecloth.
