Pick a pattern for a project that sounds fun to you. Card making, labels for presents, cross stitched board games, table mats you can laminate or stationary are all some ideas to get you started.

Buy perforated paper that is thicker than normal paper. You can also buy card stock and poke your own holes with a stronger needle.

Use a stabilizer on the back side and cover with another piece of cardstock. To keep together, trim with a pretty, filigree border.

Experiment using thicker threads and pulled thread styles. There are lots of thing you can cross stitch on paper if you're willing to be creative.

Tips & Warnings
If you're using a piercing tool, make sure that the needle is smaller. Insert the needle in the holes one at a time to avoid tearing.
You don't have to use a traditional pattern. Anything can be printed or copied on card stock to be sewn.
