We all love ringtones. There's nothing like hearing your favorite song every time someone calls. This certainly impresses your friends. With all the varieties of ringtones on the market, it's important to know the proper ringtone format for your phone before purchasing. If you are sure your phone accepts ringtones, then follow these simple steps to choose the correct format for your mobile device.

From Quick Guide: Cell Phone Ringtones
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search for your phone's Melody Composer. If you're unsure where to begin, then thumb through your phone's user manual and look for words like "my melodies," "melody composer," "ringtone composer" or something similar. If you don't find this information, then move on to Step 2. If this works, then proceed to Step 4.

  2. Step 2

Check to see if your phone receives ringtones in a wireless format. Refer to the advertisement that led you to purchase the phone to see if it mentions "downloadable ringtones". If this doesn't apply to your phone, then proceed to Step 3. If this does apply, then move on to Step 4.

  3. Step 3

Look for software that allows you to transfer ringtones to your phone from your personal computer. Many major phone manufacturers produce this kind of software.

  4. Step 4

Proceed with the purchase of your new ringtone now that you know the proper ringtone format for your cellular phone. After you've made your selection, you should see varying formats with detailed instructions for each.

Tips & Warnings
  • Steps 1 to 3 outline three different ways to determine the correct ringtone format for your phone. If neither one of these work, then your phone may not be compatible for ringtones.

on 3/17/2009 An even easier method is to go to deviceatlas.com or just search for specs of your model (written under the battery of each mobile handset) and see which format is supported on your phone. at www.ooober.mobi you can check from a list of handsets to see if content is supported.
