Step 1
Visit many different jewelers. Prices can vary from location to location. Some jewelers will discount some diamonds due to the popularity of the cut of the stone or sell pre-set diamonds at a discount.
-
Step 2
Understand cut and clarity of a diamond. The clarity of a diamond will almost always be the critical factor in a diamond's final pricing. Unusual cuts may also affect the amount paid.
-
Step 3
Inspect each diamond for its color. There are ten color grades for diamonds. Grades D and F are classified as colorless and more expensive than diamonds exhibiting other or more colors.
-
Step 4
Purchase diamonds just under the full carat weight. This unnoticeable-to-the-eye distinction of being just under the 1-carat or 2-carat weight will greatly reduce the final cost of the stone.
