Typing tests are used to determine how good of a typist a person is. Most typing tests are timed and involve copying a paragraph or more of text. Typing tests can measure accuracy and speed. There is no way to fail a typing test; so doing one for the first time is easy. Read on to learn more.

Know the proper way to type before taking a typing test. Position your hands on the keyboard so that your left index finger and right index finger are on the F and J keys respectively and your other fingers follow along the row in either direction. Make sure you are comfortable typing without looking at the keys.

Sit in a comfortable position for typing. Eliminate distractions so that you can focus on your typing test. Make sure your shoulders, fingers and wrists are relaxed as you prepare to begin your test.

Start typing when the test begins. Focus on each word as you type it and concentrate on your fingers hitting each key. Get a rhythm going so you will not slow down.

Correct mistakes as you go, as long as it won't take too much time and disrupt your rhythm. Typing tests are graded on accuracy as well as speed, so you should correct mistakes as long as it is practical to do so.

Keep typing until the test ends or time is up. Check your score and take the test again to improve.

Don't try to read and comprehend the text of what you are typing while taking a typing test. If you read ahead, you will throw off your focus and rhythm. Instead, stay focused on one word at a time.
