Focus on her positive qualities. Tell her how much you appreciate her great sense of humor or kind personality. She may be wonderfully creative or very intelligent. Whatever her good characteristics are, be sure to notice them.

Tell her that you find her attractive. Unfortunately some women become so concerned with their weight that they forget that they have some very appealing features. If you think she has beautiful eyes or gorgeous skin, be sure to compliment her on those attributes.

Find an activity that you enjoy doing together. When she's having fun and enjoying herself, she'll feel great about herself and will forget about any body issues or concerns she may have.

Talk about diet and exercise in terms of health, not weight. If the large woman in your life worries endlessly about the numbers on the scale or the latest diet fad, encourage her to think about the situation differently. The goal shouldn't be losing weight; it should be to have a strong, healthy body. Work together to start living a healthy lifestyle.

Encourage her to spend time with friends and family who are supportive and make her feel good about herself. Such people will help her appreciate herself for the person that she is, not the body she has.
